Planting Onions

Mary and I planted onions on Saturday. It was fun to have a little helper in the garden again.

She wasn't too sure about it at first and just took everything in for a few minutes, but then she started crawling around the garden and sampled some dirt.

We've been having beautiful spring weather this week; it was great to be outside to enjoy it and exciting to do some planting.

Ten Months

Mary turned ten months on the tenth!

She’s our little explorer and loves checking out the world around her.

She regularly pulls up to knees, and occasionally makes it all the way up to her feet. She also learned how to balance on her knees and sometimes sits that way. 

She loves playing games and has started initiating them. Most commonly, she covers her face while on the changing table until I ask, “where’s Mary?” Then she pops out with a huge grin.  

Mary likes sharing objects by passing them back and forth.

She still loves books, both pulling them off the shelf and looking at them.

Her favorite toy right now is her music player.  

She brings many moments of joy to our days.

Spring Planting Begins

Mary got to plant her first seeds and help me kick off spring planting by scattering lettuce seeds in the greenhouse on Sunday.

Rosemary Harvest

Mary enjoyed her first harvest this morning when we cut some rosemary sprigs from the yard.

Brave Visitors

 Dad, Mom, Heather, and the kids braved the remaining snow to come visit us at the end of last week. They arrived Thursday evening.

 Joshua had to teach Friday morning, and Evan went with him to sit in on the classes. The rest of us had pancakes for breakfast and a relaxing morning with a trip to the woodworking store.

 After Joshua and Evan returned, we had lunch at the Mongolian Grill and went to the Smith Family Bookstore, both Oregon traditions according to the kids.

 Everyone had turns helping in the kitchen. Saturday morning, Micah and I made quiche for breakfast.

The snowman we built got repaired and received new facial features.

 Saturday evening we had a triple birthday celebration for Mom, Evan, and me. 

Everyone left early Sunday morning. It was a short, but sweet visit. The snow continued to melt, and our first flower of spring bloomed that later day.

Snow Week

The snow started melting a little on Tuesday, but by late in the afternoon it was coming down again. Wednesday we woke up to a fresh blanket of snow and another day of cancelled classes.

It was a lot of snow.

We headed outside in the afternoon to take advantage of the fresh snow by building a snowman. Mary still wasn't sure about the snow, but seemed to enjoy watching us and was happy to be outside when we were holding her.

The campuses reopened Thursday afternoon as things started to clear up, but there was still plenty of snow around. We made a Fred Meyer run that afternoon; it was our first time leaving the house since Sunday.
