Memorial Day Work Weekend

Mary and David were excited to start packing for the work weekend at Calvin Crest.

We headed up Friday with Dad, Mom, and Micah, but ran into trouble when the road was closed due to a vehicle fire so we hung out at the park in Oakhurst for awhile before making it up to camp.

Saturday morning the kids wanted to go on a hike before breakfast.

After breakfast, we got to work. I cut Sherwood tunics and worked on a medical inventory.

Joshua and the kids, meanwhile, were helping clear out Sherwood.

Theresa and I got back to the medical inventory after lunch. Late in the afternoon, Cora joined us. We mostly got things inventoried and Sunday morning were able to put them in the infirmary for the summer.

Dad and Micah were part of a construction team that was working on renovating the Westview cabins.

 

We returned home after lunch on Sunday. It was fun to be at camp and help get ready for another summer season.

Creek Walk

We enjoyed some time at the creek after dinner at Mom and Dad's house yesterday. It was quiet and peaceful down by the water.

The kids had fun catching tadpoles.

We baptized Hannah at church on Sunday. Dave, Joshua, and Dan all were part of the service.

It was so special to have our families there and to have the service at our church.

We celebrated afterwards with lunch with Dave and Gayle.

At Sunday dinner, we celebrated with Hannah again and had a graduation party for Evan and Heather.

Evan graduated from high school, and we couldn't have been prouder of him. It was fun at attend his graduation ceremony and see Isaac and Heather present his diploma.

The following Saturday, Heather walked in her commencement ceremony to receive her BSN. It was exciting to go up and celebrate with her.

Post-Birthday Fun

Mary and David are enjoying all the new things Mary got for her birthday.

Triple Birthday Dinner

We celebrated our May birthday trio with birthday dinner at Mom and Dad's house.

Each birthday kid got to choose their own dessert, so we had doughnuts, chocolate cake, and mint brownies.

Mary's Birthday

Mary turned five on Wednesday, and we had fun celebrating with her. Joshua stayed home to have birthday breakfast with us before work, then Heather stopped by to drop off a birthday balloon.

We spent the rest of the day at Dad and Mom's house and enjoyed the time there, including a lengthy craft session.

Thursday we started the day off by having birthday breakfast with Elias. Mary came home with a party hat that she wore often throughout the day. We had birthday dinner that evening.

She requested a lemon cake with a dinosaur in a meadow with flowers and butterflies.

We finished things off with gifts. It was a fun way to celebrate with our sweet girl.

Five Years

Mary is five!

She loves learning about things and how stuff works.

She thinks through things carefully and asks great questions. The other day we were talking about colds and how you get colds from other people. After a brief pause, she asked, "If people always get colds from other people, where did the first cold come from?"

Mary likes drawing, coloring, mazes, secret codes, and cutting things into tiny, precise pieces.

She loves to play pretend and read books together.

Building things out of Legos, especially with Daddy, is a favorite activity. She also likes taking care of things, including her stuffed animals and her brother and sister.

Mary is enthusiastic and a joy to know.
