With people in Paris and Scotland, it is just me and Jen left in Flat 8 this weekend. I was planning to stay home and write papers today but that changed when Shane called us this morning to see if we wanted to go on a walking tour of Hampton with him. We decided that sounded like a good idea and we thought it would only be 2 or 3 hours. Things started badly with a delays at the train station and a slow train, but we made it to Hampton. We tried to start our walking tour, but the directions at the beginning were unclear and we ended up wandering around Hampton and going the wrong way numerous times for over 2 hours.

Finally we found what we were looking for, St. Mary's Parish, whew. We ate lunch at a pub next door because by this time we were hungry and thirsty. I got ribs and they were good. Tender with a sweet and tangy BBQ sauce. Then we continued, or rather, started our walking tour. Things went better from there, although there were a couple more unclear moments when we had to back track a little. But the walk was nice. It took us by the Thames and through Bushy park and gardens. The garden was natural with lots of streams and ponds and trees and it was pleasant.

Jen led us off the trail and through some mud at one point because we were supposed to be following the stream, but it ended up not being necessary and we just got our shoes muddy.

We came out of the garden on a path that led to the Diana Fountain through the liongate and into the Hampton Court Palace Gardens. Those gardens were well manicured in contrast to what we had previously seen, but beautiful as well. Of course, it would have been even better in the spring or summer when things are blooming.

But there were some daffodils in bloom and some other flowers too. We walked around the gardens

and the outside of the palace before returning to the train station and coming home.

It was a fun adventure, but longer than I liked on a day when I had work to do here.
