The Nickells are off school this week, so we went to the coast Tuesday to escape the heat and smoke and enjoy some time at the beach. Joshua, Isaac, and Jonah had to work, but the rest of us piled in the van and headed west.
We arrived around lunch time and set up a spot on the beach. Since it was a weekday in October, the beach wasn't crowded, which was great. David thought it was fun to get to eat wherever he wanted.

Some of the kids were brave, or crazy, enough to get in the water. The air temperature was probably in the high 60s, so it wasn't too cold, but was on the chilly side with the wind and fog. I thought it was great beach weather.
We walked to the end of the pier, and Mary and David loved looking over the side at the water.
The fog burned off and the sun came out while we were on the pier.
We also walked along the little shops to get cookies.
The kids found a little garden.
By then it was low tide, so we went to check out the tidepools.
We saw lots of hermit crabs and sea anemones and even a starfish, but tidepooling wasn't the best activity with toddlers, so Mom and I took the kids back.
On our way, they found this big rock that had a couple small puddles, and they had a ton of fun climbing around and exploring it.
Back by our spot, Mary went treasure hunting with Ezra and Elias.

We finished off the day with seafood at Duckie's.
David got to jump from stool to stool at the outside counter before we all loaded up the van and headed back to the valley.
