Pirate Loot!

 Heather, the kids, and I took our shuttle to City Park today, it is a huge park with some of the best views of Denver.

There is also a playground, which the kids enjoyed.

And lots of geese and poop.

Our plan was to spend some time in the park in the morning while making our way over to the farmers market. That ended up working out, but we were a bit nervous since we didn't have a map of the park, other than what we looked at before we left the hotel, and it's a really big park. We just kept walking in the direction we thought the farmers market was until finally we found it. We were so glad we made it.

We got cherries, peaches, and pizza for lunch and had a picnic under a nearby tree. The food was delicious, especially the cherries, and it was a lovely picnic except that there were a ton of daddy longlegs around. Micah was the only one who didn't find one crawling on him.

We made our way back through the park and Evan got to play in the fountains. Meanwhile, the afternoon storm was brewing in the distance.

We went to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science and got tickets for their special exhibit, Real Pirates.

We couldn't take any pictures of the pirate exhibit, which is always disappointing, but it was cool. It tells the story of the Whydah, which started as a slave ship and was taken over by pirates. They have over 200 artifacts taken from the ship, which was discovered in U.S. waters. There was also a reproduction of part of the ship that we got to walk through and we got to see real pirate treasure!

One of the museum's claims to fame is the view of Denver from its upper stories. You are supposed to get great views of the garden, downtown, and the mountains. However, it was pouring when we were there, so visibility was low. Oh well.

Dad and Mom picked us up from the museum and we had dinner together at Panda Express. We hadn't seen them since Friday night and it seemed like it had been so long! They dropped us off at our hotel and we took the kids for a swim before bed.
