We got to visit some long time family friends of the Kerrs on Thursday in north eastern Pennsylvania. We arrived Thursday evening and enjoyed a great dinner with an early birthday dessert for Joshua. The plan was to leave the next morning, but after muffins for breakfast (which I had been craving and were delicious) and a walking tour of the town, we decided to stay one more night so we could go with Karen to the dress rehearsal for the outstanding young woman program, which her daughter Kirstyn was participating in.
There were twenty-one girls participating, all seniors from the local highschools. Each participate had a "little," a girl between the ages of five and eight that danced with them during an opening song.
Practicing the opening song.
There are five categories that the girls were judged in; scholarship and achievement, an interview with the judges, performing arts, aerobics and fitness, and presence and presentation. This is the presence and presentation section where they all wear evening gowns and take turns answering an on-the-spot question.
Kirstyn sang for her performing art, and she did an amazing job.
The aerobics and fitness section was last. It was interesting to be there for the dress rehearsal and get to mostly see the program without having the place packed, as I'm sure it was the next evening. It made me miss being part of the COS dance shows. We left the next morning after enjoying breakfast and coffee/tea at the local coffee shop with Karen. But Karen was kind enough to text us the results so we didn't have to wonder forever how the real thing went. Kirstyn was the first runner-up and won the Keystone award, the Pat Parson's award, the talent award, and the people's choice award. Many congratulations to Kirstyn and her family!
