We had a great time celebrating this weekend as Joshua's birthday was Saturday. Things got started Friday evening when we headed over to the coast and Grandad cooked us a delicious dinner.
The next morning, the three of us went to breakfast at a traditional birthday breakfast restaurant. Growing up, Joshua's family often spent time in Oregon in October, so he has been to this restaurant a number of times for birthday breakfast. Once again, it did not disappoint.
It was a beautiful foggy morning with a little bit of rain and turned into a beautiful sunny day.
Back at home, we had a quiet afternoon. I made a red clam sauce pasta and overnight rolls for dinner; both of them turned out really well. I loosely followed this recipe for the pasta, which was easy to make. I just sauteed some garlic, added our homemade pasta sauce, clams and juice, white wine, and a sprinkle of dried parsley, let it simmer for a little while the pasta cooked, then mixed it all together.
We topped it all off with freshly baked blueberry pie, homemade ice cream, and cranberry wine that we got on our trip back east when we went wine tasting with Warren and Brenna. Family, lots of food, and wine; it was a nice way to spend the day celebrating a wonderful person.
