We had our last class field trip this weekend and went to York. It was a fun trip, although the bus ride was long, about 5 hours each way. We arrived in York in the early afternoon and checked into the place we were staying.
It is called Wheatlands Lodge and was a quaint place that was nice. I was sharing a room with Laura and it was a tight squeeze by our beds.
After settling in, we ventured out into the city. We got to walk along the wall, which at times didn't have any railing to keep us from falling off, but we all made it.
We were supposed to have an appointment to tour York Minster at 4pm, but they didn't have us in the books, so we had to make another appointment for tomorrow. Instead, we went to Jorvik Viking Centre. It is the site of an archaeological discovery from about 30 years ago where they found over 40,000 Viking objects. So they dug all this stuff up and studied it and then created this village. They have people dressed as Vikings and you get to time travel back to the 900s and go on a ride that takes you through Jorvik, the reconstructed Viking village. It is similar to the Peter Pan ride at Disneyland, but not as realistic, and it smelled bad. But it was fun. After the ride there are some galleries set up. The best part was the bone display. They had a number of bones with visible injuries and descriptions of what caused them. It was really interesting. After that, we were on our own. I had Pizza Hut for dinner with Ashley, Alicia, Kim, and Courtney. We got the happy hour deal which included a personal pizza, garlic bread, and a soda for just £4. Then we split a warm chocolate chip cookie with ice cream on top. We walked back through York, enjoying the fact that the sun was just going down at 6:30pm; happy first day of spring!

Was the smell on the ride supposed to be part of the experience? Sounds interesting.
