Knowledge of God

While I often hear people speak of aligning one's will with that of God, or bearing in one's body the sufferings of Christ, I rarely hear people speak of aligning one's intellect with God. When our ideas are true and robust, encompassing a thing with respect to its nature and causes, we obtain a kind of cognitive identity with God, insofar as our own intellect reproduces the order of ideas and their causes in God. To grow in knowledge, learning more about all things and scrutinizing ideas for veracity and precision, is thus an essential part of the process of salvation (theosis), and the desire to learn and know is the desire for communion with God.
